November 24, 2008 Jan Wendorf to Represent LWML at Rose Bowl Parade ST. LOUIS, MO — Janice Wendorf, President of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, will represent the organization in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, on Thursday, January 1, 2009. Wendorf will ride on The Lutheran Hour float as well as sing in the choir featured on the float, entitled “Hallelujah!” This year’s parade theme is “Hats Off to Entertainment.” The Lutheran Hour float is the only Christian float participating in the world's most famous media event. The float is made possible in part through the hard work and dedication of the Petal Pushers®, a group of more than 4,000 volunteers who decorate the Lutheran Hour float and other entries in the parade. Recently, the striking four-color card was featured in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which has a daily circulation of about 300,000. The newspaper highlighted the LWML card in a large display package called “’Tis Better to Give” about holiday greeting cards that benefit groups that raise money to help others. LOUIS, MO — Around 200 Lutheran Women in Mission from all over the United States will discover that “To Everything There is a Season … A Time To Lead” at a leadership training conference October 24-26, 2008, at the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. At the Assembly of Leaders event, participants will hear inspirational and informative speakers address the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League’s current primary targets and goals: Christ-Centered Living, Telling the Good News, Partnering for Diversity and Building Up Our Sisters in Christ. Each of the LWML’s 40 districts will send new leaders to be trained at the event, which will include fellowship, singing and activities that will help participants experience the diversity within the organization. Speakers include Christian author Jane Fryar, former LWML Presidents Ida Mall and Virginia Von Seggern, LCMS World Mission representative Kristy Grannis, and LWML Committee Chairmen Melissa Salomon and Katy Gifford. In addition to the four main sessions, each of the five departments of the LWML, made up of committees and task forces, will give presentations with leadership tips and handouts related to their areas of expertise: Human Care, Gospel Outreach, Communication, Christian Life and Servant Resources. Assembly of Leaders participants will be asked to implement a plan to share what they learn with the women of their own districts, in an effort to further develop more leaders to “Serve the Lord with Gladness” all over the nation.
