“I know I should spend and be spent. But I must have time alone with You—to replenish my store of faith and love lest I be too poor to give.” You Are Loved by Alma Kern
Lutheran Women in Mission who are in the Word read and study God’s Word on a regular basis. Have you ever read the Bible cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation? That was a goal of mine; many times I began with all good intentions, only to get bogged down around Leviticus or Deuteronomy. In an effort to systematically read the Bible I tried many different guidelines and products, but they lacked Lutheran doctrine and substance in their commentaries.
In 1996 Concordia Publishing House introduced a devotional guide, Today’s Light, a periodical that guided readers through the Bible in two years’ time. I have been a subscriber to it ever since. What wonderful treasures are in store as one reads through all of Scripture! The Bible is “His” story, there for each of us. But these things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name. John 20:31 NIV
The LWML, in partnership with CPH, has a special edition of the Today’s Light Bible which incorporates the devotional aspect of Today’s Light into the NIV translation, guiding readers through the Bible. You may want to use it as you commit to being a Christian who is in the Word.
